Friday Golf News Roundup: that shit cray

We decided to start this fabulous Friday post with an update on all the craziness going on in the golf world.

First off, Phil Mickelson officially voted into the Hall of Fame. Jackpot. Phil recieved 72% of the vote after becoming eligible last year when he turned 40. How cool is that? For the longest time he wore the label of "Best Player to Never Win a Major" and it sucked watching him come so close. Once he broke through at Augusta the ball really got rolling. Literally and figuratively. Adding a PGA Championship and two more Green Jackets, Phil has definitely solidified his place in golf history. We salute you, Mr. Mickelson, congratulations on your Hall of Fame career. Thumbs up, sir.

Next, there is all this crazy hype about Tiger being back...blah blah blah guess what? This isn't a PGA Tour event and the field is nowhere near the strength of a PGA Tour event. I mean kudos to TW if he can win on Sunday but it might be hard with his hands around his neck. The real test will be this winter when the season starts up again. We won't know until then if he is really "back". Maybe the pressure will get to him? Or maybe just some more hostesses from Perkins in Windermere...

So after a beer or two while watching the Aussie Open late night on Wednesday, we may or may not have tweeted to Keegan Bradley that we wished he was in Australia gearing up for the President's Cup next week instead of someone else *cough Tiger *cough. Wake up on Thursday only see that Hunter Mahan had injured himself somehow and pulled out of the tournament and his participation in the President's Cup was in doubt. Needless to say, we were excited. No offense to Hunter Mahan but Keegan seriously deserves to play. He won a freakin' major this year. What the trash did Tiger do? Made a front nine charge at Augusta in...what, April? Only to shoot even par on the back 9 and lose. Ok so it turns out we are really hating on TW in this post but we think everyone will agree that there is someone who earned a spot and had it taken away by Mr. Woods who apparently only needed to have a less-than-mediocre season to secure a captain's pick. Barf.

John Daly anyone? Walking off the course after losing all his balls (and his marbles) in a water hazard screams no class or sportsmanship. Not that anyone ever accused him of having either. Enough said.

The LPGA is at retired great Lorena Ochoa's tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico this weekend and after the first round the ever-exciting Suzann Pettersen and ageless wonder Juli Inkster are leading. Like seriously? Juli Inkster just doesn't quit. She has been playing (and winning) since the dawn of time. A 7-time Major Champion, Juli keeps proving she still has it. And Suzann, considerably younger and already a Solheim Cup hero. Did anyone watch in Ireland this past fall? I have never seen anyone will more clutch putts into the hole under pressure. Well, maybe one guy who wears a red shirt on Sundays but we are talking LPGA right now.
