President's Cup Preview & Prediction

Finally, the President's Cup is here. This years event being contested at Royal Melbourne in Australia, the site of the ONLY American loss in the history of the tournament. So naturally we had to make a prediction based on the following criteria:

Natural Talent: USA, the big hitters (Bubba, DJ, Kuchar, Webb, Watney) all have had success great success this year on the PGA Tour and the creative shotmakers (Phil, Stricker, Furyk, TW) bring a lot of experience to this young team.

Skill (Major finishes): Internationals, they have the Masters champ on their team. And 4 other players that finished in the top 10 this year. US had one, Tiger Woods (who, may we remind you, folded like a cheap tent on the back 9). And maybe we are still a little upset that Keegan Bradley was left off the roster, a POOR CHOICE BY MR. COUPLES, he won 3 times including a major this year. WTF. How could he have been left off the roster?

World Rankings: USA, strictly by the numbers, the US has more players in the top 25 than the Internationals.

Course Knowledge: Internationals, in case you still don't know, its being played IN Australia and there are 5 Australians on their team. They will clearly have the upper hand when it comes to knowing the course. Geoff Ogilvy even worked there as a kid and owns a house less than a wedge shot away. The US can't make up for this in any way.

So, tied after our even number of categories. Weird? Okay we have some biases to address which will lead us to the final prediction:

Tiger Woods: Good finish last week, but squandered a lead and lost. Kudos to us on predicting that implosion.

Adam Scott: Words cannot express our love for this beautiful man and his golf game that really came around this year. Voted in Golf Magazine the Comeback Player of the Year, he played well and looked EXCELLENT while doing so.

Keegan Bradley: Left of the team. Yep, we are still bitter. Good luck TW. We'll see what you can do.

Fred Couples: Looking for a little redemption at Royal Melbourne, he was part of the American squad that lost last time here.

Greg Norman: he is Australian. Need we say more?

Our nationality: we feel like we should support the American team

FINAL PREDICTION: Internationals. Sorry, not to be unpatriotic but we think the teams are both pretty stacked. The Internationals have the intangibles that Americans do not. It was a hard decision and we contemplated flipping a coin because we don't think it will be a runaway victory for either side.

Stay tuned to see how well our prediction holds up!

PS. We love that the Americans wore the Australian colors in their practice round and are auctioning off the shirts for charity. Good going, Freddie.

  1. OK, American Bandstand ratings, like the consistent Tiger Slam/Slamming, solid performance haha! All in all, the Int'ls have the motivation to keep from looking lame, and the Americans have depth of talent but a loss down under would be good for 2013 matches! I'm just saying, TV ratings for the future count, like the incredible randomness of the Woods Scott match in the first round! No, there was no collusion here, haha! Love the Blog, and you guys!
